You kids get off my lawn.

The Santaroga Barrier - Frank Herbert I'm doing the 30 Day Book Challenge on facebook, and I got to Day 2: Least favorite book. That is this book.

I did not pack enough books on my honeymoon, partially because Aphrodite by Allende turned out to be mostly cookbook, although still terribly awesome to read on one's honeymoon. (It's about aphrodisiacs, and was a wedding gift from a friend.) This p.o.s. was sitting on the cabin swap shelf. It is about psychic cheese. I'm not sure I need to say more than that, but I will. It's by one of my favorite (at the time) writers, but it's one of those short-stories-that-get-expanded-to-craptastic-novel mostly through fill and dream sequences. Psychic cheese might make a good short story, but not by a writer as credulous as Herbert. I have no idea why I finished it. :/

The psychic cheese was called Jaspers. Oh God, I'm remembering this novel.

Every time I mention this book to my husband, he says oh, you mean Hellstrom's Hive? which is another Herbert novel. I read most of Herbert's books at one point, but have never braved HH because it might be like The Santaroga Barrier. Actually, I'm pretty sure I won't be tackling much little-heard-of 70s sf anymore. This is a terrible book.
